The Basics
The model behind short drama apps is a simple one. You watch vertical episodes that are very short. The first few cost nothing. Coins or a pass unlock the later ones. Most of the confusion begins with that split. These five answers are the place to start.
What counts as a short drama app?
It serves up vertical video made for phones. Many tiny episodes make up each series. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama lead. The plots favor billionaires, revenge and identity reveals. Werewolf romances are common too. China is where the format began, as duanju.
How long is each episode?
Most run one to two minutes. Shoots in the West often target 60 to 100 seconds. Usually, a series has fruit love 20 to 100 episodes. Married at First Sight has 90 in ReelShort’s listing. ReelShort’s hit Double Life series lists 60. In length, a full series can match a movie.
Why do episodes end on cliffhangers?
That is usually where free episodes end. ReelShort notes that the first 5 to 15 are usually free. Reports from the industry cite 8 to 10. The moment of peak tension is where the lock tends to land. That timing is essentially the business model. It is also a top viewer complaint.
Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort belongs to Crazy Maple Studio based in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group supports that studio. Running DramaBox is Singapore’s StoryMatrix, which is part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama comes from Holywater, which was founded in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment acquired an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, while DramaBox followed in 2023.
Is it possible to watch in a browser or on TV?
Yes, within limits. On ReelShort’s website, you can sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or email. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. You can get free unlocks only in the app. My Drama has an Apple TV app. No verified ReelShort TV app turned up in our search.
What It Costs
The most common questions are about money. All prices below are from the US App Store as of September 2026. Country, platform and promotion all change them. Take each number as approximate. Always look at the pricing screen first. The listings show the following.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and the free part is real. People searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want the catch. It costs nothing to download. You get the opening episodes free. Later ones require coins or a VIP pass. Watching ads and checking in earns free coins.
How do the coins work?
The currency that unlocks episodes is coins. ReelShort’s blog puts an episode at around 60 coins. For roughly $4.99, the smallest coin pack gives you 500 coins. Bigger packs include bonus coins. A 7-day check-in streak earns 100+ coins. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Can coins expire?
The answer depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Coins you bought do not. Things work differently at My Drama. Its terms forfeit coins after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first, and stay active.
What is the price of a weekly pass?
The common US price is around $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Some apps display cheaper options. ShortMax’s listing shows $9.99, while GoodShort starts around $5.99. Every one of these passes renews automatically. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.
Do apps offer monthly or yearly plans?
A few apps offer them. According to ReelShort’s blog, a yearly plan costs about $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. That figure is therefore unconfirmed. DramaWave lists a monthly price of about $36.99. In the US, ShortMax lists weekly passes only.
Is it possible to watch without paying?
Yes, if you are patient. Each series’ free first episodes are the place to start. Rewarded ads open up more. Keep a daily check-in streak alive. ReelShort’s official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels are a further option. All four combined go furthest.
Subscriptions and Cancelling
Until you stop them, weekly passes renew. Plenty of people don’t expect that. Cancelling takes little time once you know where. The right place depends on how you paid. Stores cancel store purchases. Each company handles purchases made on its website.
Does removing the app cancel my subscription?
No, and it is a common mistake. Apple states that removing an app does not end its subscription. Google says the same about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms restate that warning. Until you cancel, the pass renews. Cancel first, then delete.
How do I cancel on an iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Next, tap your name at the top. Then tap Subscriptions. Select the drama app in the list. Tap Cancel, then confirm. To be safe, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel on Android?
Begin by opening the Google Play Store app. Open your Subscriptions list. Select the short drama app there. Tap Cancel and follow the steps shown. Remember that uninstalling does not cancel anything. Check the list once more to confirm the change.
Can I cancel within the app?
Sometimes, but going through the store is safer. In ShortMax’s terms, there is mention of an in-app option under About Subscription. For store buyers, they point to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. If you bought on the website, reach out to the company. Keep a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why did I get charged after a free trial?
Trial wording can confuse. ShortMax’s developer admits that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels puzzled people. Under its terms, passes renew 24 hours before expiry. The renewal costs the same price. Make sure to cancel a day before any trial ends. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Refunds
Who took your money determines the refund route. Apple takes care of App Store charges. Google takes care of Play charges. The companies handle their own website charges. No route promises a refund. Each path is mapped in this table.
| Where you paid | Cancelling | Where to seek a refund | Things to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | The Report a Problem page from Apple | Deleting the app does not cancel it |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, then the developer | Uninstalling does not cancel |
| Website | Your account or support at the app company | The app company alone | Often non-refundable, as My Drama’s terms state |
How do I get an Apple refund?
Head to Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that paid. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple usually responds within 24 to 48 hours. It is Apple that decides, not the app developer. Cancel the pass as well, or it renews.
How does a Google Play refund work?
Here, timing matters most. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Go directly through Google Play to request it. Once that window closes, contact the developer. ReelShort users are pointed to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast if a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about website purchases?
Those purchases go through the app company. Neither Apple nor Google can help there. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right under its terms. Other companies write their own rules. Before paying online, read the terms.
Can I refund unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. ShortMax will not refund unless its own fault makes a product unusable. For accidental buys, store requests may help. Until a series hooks you, stick to the smallest pack. That way, mistakes cost less.
Safety and Look-Alike Apps

Confusion over names is everywhere here. Small unrelated apps turn up after misspellings. A few of the downloads are unsafe. Big brands get copied by some sites. Using the real names protects your money. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.
Is Real Short an actual app?
No, not that we could find. ReelShort is the correct spelling, and Real Short is a misspelling of it. Other variants include “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts”. The correct name is written as one word. Its App Store seller is New Leaf Publishing. Before downloading, verify that.
What are the ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV apps?
They are minor, unrelated apps. Found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, ReelBox has 50K+ Android installs. There is no link between it and ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, which people often type as “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. With 10K+ installs, GoldShort TV is an Android TV app. GoodShort is probably what most searchers mean.
Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?
Very likely, but unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Its website sends visitors on to ShortTV’s site. Both apps launched in September 2023. There is no official rename announcement that we found. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also turn up unrelated apps.
Are mod APKs and coin generators safe to use?
No, and not one is official. Modified app copies from outside official stores are what mod APKs are. One look-alike of DramaBox calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are not official either. You cannot check what they do. Stick to official stores and websites.
Why is ReelShort rated so low on Trustpilot?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page sits at 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Reviewers frequently complain about charges after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals come up often. Other reviewers mention coin prices and denied refunds. Any review site reflects the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check rather than a verdict.
